BENEATH THE SHELL

The shell is the outer surface of the object; underneath the shell is the spiritual world. This spiritual life is characterized by both aimlessness and seriousness, and reward beyond that which is visible. It is the embodiment of emotion, but in this fast-paced era of information and explosive pressure, the slowly flowing fantasy found in the spiritual life seems useless and unnecessary.

I use my love of toys and animation as inspiration and document my search for meaning and interconnection by depicting my fantasies about the objects as living entities. These fantasies serve as a ritual, a way to retrieve and preserve emotions that have been neglected or repressed. "People know all of the advantages of being useful, but no one knows the advantages of being useless” (Chinese philosopher Zhuangzi). Through this work, I hope to encourage others to search for meaning and draw attention to hidden, but important, emotions.

Rebel:Mrs. Duck

In an empty airport, ducks (airport carts) are enjoying a nap, happy that the airport is about to close. Suddenly a traveler interrupts this comfort by rudely grabbing a duck. The other ducks get very angry, and one of them thinks, Why don't we push people instead of letting them push us?

So she picks up a passenger randomly, but accidentally pushes him directly to the gate. A month later, the airport introduces a push service, in which passengers could be pushed directly to the gate instead of walking. The airport is busy again.

SeekerDr. Pipe

There are two planets, Earth and Water Star. They are two separate worlds, but the sapce-time mark could cause the souls of the inhabitants of the two planets to exchange.

The story begins with a stone (from Water Star) waking up in the body of the Pipe (on Earth). She's panicking and doesn't know where she is. Then another pipe, who was also a stone soul from Water Star, told her what had happened and explained the whole process.

The mark is very hard to find, but they will persist in order to get home. So people often see water pipes studying stones, and they're actually looking for their way home.

Guardian:Miss Tap

The water tap is the trunk of the elephant; after many years the tap separated from the elephant's body and the elephant became extinct. But one tap believes she’s still an elephant's nose, and worries that her constant flow means the elephant's cold is getting worse.

She tries to wrap herself in a blanket to keep the elephant warm, then she sees the elephant. The elephant tells her why they had disappeared: they had been the god of water, but since humans believed more in their own abilities than in gods, faith was no longer strong enough to keep the elephants alive. But they still exist because of the water taps.

From then on Miss Tap is always wrapped in blankets to guard the elephant. It's a story of a fallen god and his last believer
